A question about American Fridge Freezer

I know there are a few posts flying about around american fridge freezers, so I apologise for being boring, but someone has told me that it is best to buy one with an internal filter?? Because an external filter is a pain and you need extra space to put it? Can someone enlighten me? I wouldn't have extra space. I have a space for the fridge freezer but nothing else because I have part of a wall one side and a tall larder unit the other side.

I am looking for a stainless steel one with a drink and ice dispenser. I saw a Samsung one I liked, but have been looking at some comments on MSE and they are not getting good reviews!

Thanks.

Our Samsung had a filter on the rear of the fridge - you could fit it to the wall & slide the fridge out easy enough to change, whichever way you had it.

The ones we've looked at, now do seem to be easier to get at, being inside the fridge, itself.

Do get the replacment filters on line, though - save afortune!!

Do you know the models that have them inside? I spoke to a guy in Comet yesterday and he didn't really answer my question regarding internal filters. He said it didn't matter, but I have been thinking about it and presumably if it fits on the back then the fridge will not be flush on the wall? How far will it come out? I am steering towards the Samsung f/freezer, but its 672 depth, and if I add another 200 (I am presuming here) for a filter, then thats 872! My units only come out 600.

The filter isn't as wide as a Pepsi can & on the one we had, about 10inches long, so not too much of a problem.
