    Perhaps I'm biased here...but I'm going to jump and say NEVER wait until you think you can afford children... When it happens you adjust your lifestyle to cope and things will work out. I did the wait but if I had known when I was younger the medical difficulties I would encounter in later life I would never have waited.

    I agree. Financially there probably is never a right time for most people. Its just something you do and lump. When I had my kids I was then in private practice, so I only got paid for 6 weeks maternity pay. With annual leave I only had off two months in total for both my kids, but we struggled through and managed.
