Hi,
We were heading for Nottingham and still may do but have looked at Lincolnshire as an alternative.
Can anyone offer any advice on living in south Lincolnshire? We've been to Spalding and Boston before and quite liked it.
Travelling to work is not an issue and schools must be within the area.
Any advice appreciated.

Lived in Boston (Antons Gowt) a number of years ago and loved it. House prices were (and still are) competitive but Boston has had it's problems in more recent times with the influx of Eastern Europeans I believe. A search on Up My Street should assist.0 -
These areas came within the search regions, on our Rightmove looking, before we found our 'upsidedown house' we're buying(I keep on about it & we're getting there)
The number of cliks & checking just how much too far the places you mention were, made it sooooooo annoying - excellent value & really good plot sizes, even on new builds too.
Prefer both to Nottingham, I think!!
We'll look that way again, as a retire too, type place, when that time comes!! Long way off just now!!

I too have heard of the recent problems and the influx of Eastern Europeans
I live in Bourne Lincs which is a fairly good small market town with all you need. Good docs good schools and some great pub/restaurants. Good bus service to Peterborough which takes about 30 minutes or so. Spalding is a bit cheaper than Bourne and has some good ameneties too, bigger than Bourne. We have lived here for 2 years now and are happy.
Good luckI USED TO BE INDECISIVE BUT NOW I'M NOT SO SURE!
Rich people tell you that money doesn't bring you happiness just so the poor people don't feel jealous.0 -
Many thanks guys, some good vibes there.
Eastern Europeans seem to be popping up in most places these days.0 -
The area between Spalding and Kings Lynn also has a lot to offer. Perhaps look at Holbeach and Long Sutton and their satellite villages.
Sutton Bridge is a port with all the problems that can present but has good parts too.
When we next move, it will probably be to Whaplode or Moulton, both villages near Holbeach, with good connections for transport, own infant and junior schools and reasonable local shops. Moulton also has a thriving Health Centre.
House prices have doubled in the seven years I have been in the area but still represent extremely good value - this was as far north as this southerner could go and still feel not too far from 'home' and I am thankful to be out of the M25 rat-race. Life is slightly more gentle and slower here. I have no regrets at moving here at all although it took me a long time before I appreciated the beauty of the fens - been used to trees and hills in the landscape for too many years!0 -
Paddys Mum,
We've seen a lovely house in Moulton actually and like you say they tend to represent extremely good value for money.
Thanks for the advice, much appreciated.0 -
so the Eastern Europeans are the ones causing the problems?Asda card - £220, Halifax Card- £2200
Halifax Loan - £3300, Capital Card - £500
Total owing = £6220

I am not going to enter into a debate as to who is causing the problems in Boston, but I would say to avoid it, as it really is not a nice place anymore.
I would agree with the comments about Bourne, lovely town.
But I still think you should come to Nottingham and be my neighbour! xGone ... or have I?0 -
I'd say it's more likely to be the bigoted attitudes of the Bostonians causing the problems. Small town with a smaller mind.0

Agree with the above, grew up in Bourne and parents still live there, was going to move back with my wife and young son but got a job in Manchester. Lots of new builds in the town which are quite pricey and a little way out. Older properties tend to stay on the market a bit longer so I'm sure a bargain could be had.
Schools are excellent only downside is shopping but Peterborough is only 20 mins away and Tesco deliver!0
