There is a skytrain at Duss Airport that then takes you to the train station at the airport.
The airport train then links direct to the Duss central station.
Cant really help you on where else you can ger to from the airport train station direct
Website here with a map that shows you location of the train station at the airport

First of all, don't confuse which team you're supporting - they both have blue as their team colour!
The Duesseldorf Airport train station is some way away from the terminal (I take it you are flying into DUS proper, rather than Ryanair's NRN!). It is connected to the airport by a sky train (overhead monorail) which is free of charge.
There are ticket counters at the train station and the staff are usually quite helpful (unless, on the day, they happen to support Schalke, in which case they might send you in the wrong direction :rotfl: ). Some trains going from Duesseldorf to Dortmund (and beyond) would stop in Gelsenkirchen. The S1 S-Bahn (a regional train that stops at lots of little stations inbetween) will definitely get you there. Find the platform for direction of Duisburg / Dortmund.
You should be able to purchase a ticket that also allows you to use the tram from Gelsenkirchen station to the Arena Auf Schalke.
For train info, try this link:
www.bahn.de/p/view/international/englisch/international_guests.shtml
It's the official German Railways site.
Duesseldorf airport also have some public transport info on their website: http://www.dus-int.de/dus_en/bahn/
And if you go to their homepage, you'll find info on the Sky Train as well.
Enjoy the game.0 -
hi
thanks for that info (and you are right it would not be the first time i have been directed the wrong way by the other teams fans!!!)

I've been to a number of sporting events in Germany and the stadium ticket has always been valid on local transport - i.e. trams/light railway and local trains. You won't be able to travel from Dusseldorf to Gelsenkirchen using your match ticket as a train ticket however.
As previous post said, www.bahn.de and click on international for the English language service.
DB had an office in the south of England - Southampton, Brighton? Somewhere down there - I bought a travel pass from them 4 years ago. I'm not sure if this is still the case but they have a UK web site http://www.bahn.co.uk/db_uk/view/index.shtml
and a phone number on it 08718 80 80 66
where you can get advice in English - you will also find that the train station staff often speak English - they often wear badges in the ticket halls to indicate this.
You may be able to buy tickets in advance to get them cheaper - highly recommend making that call rather than using the web or waiting until you get there.0 -
many thanks i will give them a call to see wha they advise
as oer normal all my question are answered on MSE
cheers
