Hi. Ive just realised I'v got a dual meter instead of one reading, but i don't use hardly any energy at night so my bill is a lot higher than it should be.
Can i ask to recalculate on a normal tariff? I didn't ask to be on economy 7. Or can you get refunded?
Thanks

You can ask but the supplier is not compelled to do so. Who is your supplier ? Will they charge at single rate on a multi rate meter, the majority will not. You are billed according to the type of meter fitted not which type of tariff you wish to be on unless the supplier is willing to do otherwise.0

I will have to ask, i thought it wouldn't matter because the meter has day night and then total.. so it wouldn't be hard to give them a total meter reading and get the bill calculated, but some sites on the internet say they may charge to put in a new meter. which in rented accommodation would be a pain.
I reckon my bill is about a third more than i was paying at my old flat having flat rate energy costs.0 -
E.On are one of the few, along with BG, that will supply single rate to a multi rate meter so you need to contact them. The downside is that they do not have any competitive tariffs at the moment.
What percentage night / day are you using at the moment. Some suppliers can be cheap with quite a low percentage night use.0 -

Afternoon craiggg123.
As molerat says, you can certainly have a single rate tariff even though you've a two rate Economy 7 meter. No need to change the meter. We'll still need the two readings though. All we do is add the day and night usage together and charge it all at the one price per kWh.
If you've an online account, you can make this switch yourself by logging in with your username and password. Choose 'find the best deal for you' from the left hand menu. This will show you the split between day and night usage at your property. If you still want to go ahead, choose continue and follow through from there.
Molerat also makes a good point about being sure this is the best thing to do. To be cost effective, customers with Economy 7 meters need to use a certain amount of electricity during the cheaper off peak times. The actual amount depends on the region and tariff. The website screen I mentioned will help with this.
The switch will be immediate. It won't be backdated unless you specifically asked for this in the past. If you did, there'll be notes on your account (possibly even a recording of a phone conversation if relevant) and the switch can be started from then. You'll need to talk to us about this. It's not something that can be done online.
Hope this helps craiggg123 and have a good weekend.

You'll need a new account craiggg123 but, don't worry, it's easy to sort. We've a specialist Home Moves team who'll do this. Let them have details about the date responsibility changes, meter readings for that day and a forwarding address. They'll close your house mate's account and send a final bill to their forwarding address (or post it online if registered with our website for paperless billing). This will keep things accurate.
They'll also set up a new account for you starting from the readings used to close the house mate's account. You can choose a new tariff from those on our website. If you don't, we'll put you on our standard tariff - Energy Plan. There aren't any restrictions with this leaving you free to change supplier without penalty.
If you prefer, you can do all this online by using the 'Moving Home' form on our website.
Hope this helps craiggg123 and have a good weekend.
