When I bought my first house, for the first few months I felt homesick for my mum and dads house - and I was a married woman.

But I settled down, and lived there very happily for 8 years.

Give it at least 6 months, and then see how you feel

Anxiety is no fun, and I completely sympathise with the difficulty in living somewhere with something that triggers it. Especially something you feel is irrational, because then you get frustrated with yourself for being bothered in the first place, which makes you stressed, which makes you even more susceptible to anxiety. Especially when, on a rational level, you know as well as we do that your ex's family would respond to seeing you with "Oh hey, it's, uh, our son's ex. LauWill! That was it. Now, what do I want for lunch?"

The CBT will help you break those loops. While you're waiting for it, you can start some positive thinking practices yourself. As someone else said, make a list of all the things that made you fall in love with the house. Compliment yourself on your good judgement. Make active choices to enjoy your new home - paint it, cook your favourite food, have friends over. Get your boyfriend involved. Enjoy the fact of ownership. Turf the living room*. Fill a room entirely with balloons**. Paint the bathroom with glow in the dark paint.*** Put it all back again, or don't.

    * surprisingly, real turf is cheaper than astroturf.
** this takes longer than you think, and the static means the balloons start popping each other, so it's hard to get it above shoulder height.
    *** I haven't done this. Yet.

I hated my house when I moved in 4 months ago. This weekend was the first weekend when I thought "I actually quite like it here". We've had non stop issues since moving in which have cost us a lot and we've had to live in the mess whilst works were being done. Stick it out, you haven't been there long. I've had instances of sitting in the car crying, refusing to go into the house.
