Starting a divorce?

I've been separated for 2 years now & I'm wanting to start the divorce proceedings. I still live in the marital home which is up for sale. The problem I have is that we have agreed to split the cost of divorce but she says she doesn't have the money until the house sells. Do you pay up front or can it be paid at a later date? I want to start it as I know it's a long process & want to get the ball rolling. I'm guessing that if we do it online or ourselves then we would have to pay upfront?

If you do it yourselves then the court fee has to be paid when you send in the petition

I did mine DIY and it probably cost us each about £250 that's obviously the straightforward divorce, the finances were separate as solicitor was involved0
