This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all
Another bad night here, hey ho at least it's Friday. I need to have a shower but I'll wait until 5 as I don't want to wake the neighbourhood this early.
Judi, at least it is all over now, take care of yourself.
LW I'm glad Alfie is settling in well, I have a colleague with a poorly trained ridgeback and he is a nightmare to walk as he is huge and he pulls.
I managed to get some sewing done last night, I replaced yet another zip in yet another onesie belonging to a DGC.
I think our 8 year old DGD may be staying tonight, unless she gets a better offer, lol.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning, thank you for starting us off Hester.
I've been up for a while, doesn't matter if I am tired today as not working, at least not going to the office, may do some paperwork and I do have a work appointment tomorrow. And no, Saturdays are not normally work days for us.
Judi, I read about your mum's funeral, and am sorry that your family were so unkind.
I may have to go shopping later, have a family funeral next week and my clothes are looking a bit shabby, also have some sewing to do for uncrafty friend. Over tge years she has brought in to work a fair few things that she needs "help" with, which really means please do this for me. She's a dear friend though, I don't really mind.
My work laptop is on last legs, they are fixing another old one for me. I had a fancy phone the other week but now have to swap with a colleague who needs some of the features on it and I only need to use it as a phone. The calendar on it, linked to my work electronic calendar, was useful but I can easily revert to carrying a diary
Friend has asked what I might like to do for my 65th birthday and I have no idea. Better get thinking, not many weeks left.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning everyone
HH - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that need/want them x
Happy Birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, cloudy but dry underfoot, will put some washing out shortly, hopefully it'll dry as there's a breeze.
Dinner last night was HM chicken, bacon and mushroom pie, mash, carrots, peas and LO cauli/broc cheese and gravy, cake or ice cream for dessert. Tonight will be chicken and ham kievs, chips and beans/veg for the menfolk, I have the other fish pie I made on Wednesday, I'll have that with veg.
I'm pleased with how productive I was yesterday - I got into town visited the building society and bank, picked up reserved item from A***s, made an appointment at beautician's because she'd had to cancel me last week due to being poorly, detoured round to the big DIY shop and bought the seed potatoes but they hadn't got any runner beans, so will need to go back as they are due in any time, then onto the petrol station to fill my car up as I was nearly running on fumes. Came home and continued with washing and getting it line dried, ironed and put in respective rooms for boys to put away, did housework, stripped our bed, washed and remade, swept and scrubbed the kitchen floor. Also read the electric and gas meters and sent readings to B/Gas, also did a couple of jobs on pc - actually felt like I achieved quite a bit - but didn't want to leave everything until today as I'm working tomorrow and we're intending going to the hospital tomorrow afternoon, I'll finish work, go home organise quick snack then DH and myself will head off.
Today I will be heading to the SM shortly, then I want to get some baking/cooking done, and I'll take it slower today and just potter along.
Judi - hugs to you, sorry the funeral was so difficult, but you can move forward knowing you and your immediate family were completely respectful and dignified x
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Judi - What a horrible time you've had, hugs to you.
JackieO - Enjoy your last day.
Another dry day, yesterday was glorious and 20 degrees when I came home from work. Don't think it will be as nice today but the washing is out.
Didn't have a great nights sleep but it's Friday! Hoping all the children get picked up on time today, we had a child left until 3.45 yesterday, the mother had phoned and said she would be late - no problem as emergencies happen but she had been in Glasgow and didn't hurry back. She has been late every day this week but yesterday took the biscuit. Not even a thank you when she did eventually turn up.
Moan over! Have a happy Friday. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all. Thanks for starting off HESTER. I hope you manage a nanny nap later.
Flying visit off me. The three DGDs to waken up shortly but I am just enjoying a cup of coffee in peace first! They were all late to bed last night. Middle one (7) suddenly realised she had some homework that had to be handed in this morning!
They are all off to the caravan after school and staying till Sunday teatime. We plan on taking over and staying for a few days next week ourselves.
Got mountains of washing done yesterday and it was drying in no time in the sunshine. Also got a bit more garden tidying done and some pots cleared of dead plants and washed. Today is the usual pre weekend vac and dust day. Also bathroom and kitchen to clean.
Righto, off to waken up three children. Have a good day all, CSARINA have a good holiday and safe journey. (((HUGS))) to all wanting/needing them and take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
I woke up to rain this morning but it's still nice and warm in the house. I've fed the animals and waited for the girls to get up to make sure they have some breakfast. The last couple of days I've been in bed in the morning and the older two have gone to school without any. They don't take lunch either and come home like ravenous wild things. I've told them till I am blue in the face that it's not good for them or their concentration to get so hungry but they obviously know best as they are teenagers .
My cold is progressing and I want to rip my face off as I feel so congested. I will dose myself up and go back to bed once the girls have left. Hubby has booked today off so he can dismantle DD13's high sleeper bed and make her wooden bed up. Although, saying that he was complaining of coming down with a cold too and of course his will be worse than mine.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are doing, take care xx0 -
Morning everyone.
Looks like another lovely day ahead, would be good. Yesterday I eventually managed to get the back lawn cut even though the grass was still wet. I can rest a bit easier now.
My delivery didn't come until nearly 3pm so I had a nice long time sitting outside in the sunshine and heat reading. The builder called round as I found some 'growth' on a damp patch in one room. He's a nice chap and was horrified. Anyway, as I'm away from home all of next week he's pulling some of the men off one piece of work to get my problem sorted.
Someone pulled up at the door in the early afternoon with a lamb which had been hit by a car. I got the farmer who took the lamb. Turns out it was extremely badly injured and was put down. The sheep regularly escape from one field and are often on the track, mind you the scary thing is when it's Highland cows that escape.
I need to buy some dust sheets today, I want to try to avoid the mega dust crisis from last year. Hope I can get cloth ones still.
Judi - I bet you're glad it's all over. Seems so cruel of the family to behave like that at a funeral. You know you did your best.
Friday already, it's all going too fast! I wish everyone a good one.0 -
Morning all,
Quick one as I am running late, off to work for me but weekend off :jand im meeting the girls tonight for eats and drinkies really looking forward to it, OH will drop us off and collect himself a takeaway.
Judi hold your head up high, you behaved with great dignity, big hugs xx
Got to run,
Have good days all xx0 -
Hi everyone,
Judi, hopefully you won't have to see much more of your brother. I haven't seen or spoken to 2 of my brothers since the estate was wound up last August (didn't even get a thank you for sorting everything out as executor) and fully expect to lose touch completely. They aren't nice people I'm sorry to say and I won't miss them - I didn't see much of them when mum and dad were alive.
I had an eventful morning. Turned up at DS' to take them to the airport to find the house in darkness, cue mad panic and hair raising dash to the airport. Thankfully it was Luton or I'm sure they would have missed their flight. Luton now charge £2.50 to drop-off passengers which I think is iniquitous. It took us 30 seconds to drop them off and 10 minutes queueing at the pay barrier to get out.
Anyway, I'm off back to bed now for a couple more hours, thank goodness I don't have to go to work.0 -
Morning everyone,
Dull and overcast this morning, has definetly turned colder as heating has clicked in.
Was very busy at work yesterday so glad am off today. In the 2.5 months since I have been there the aged debt has reduced by over 50% and the ledgers are looking much more respectable, even got a well done from the MD
Food shopping this morning, have still got those Mr Sparks vouchers so will go there to stock up on meat and fish then pop into Aldeees for fruit and veg. Mum wants me to look for some of their Pansy or Viola plug plants as they had run out at her local store.
Other than need to go through the house, catch up on some paperwork and then will get over to see Bill as missed him yesterday.
Judi did get angry when I read about how parts of your family treated you and your dearest at Mum's funeral, at least you all kept your dignity in the face of such awful behaviour so much respect.
Dumpling hope you feel better soon, do you have any Vicks in the house, works a treat on congestion.
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x0
