Does this price for vet treatment sound fair?

Hi there,
I am a vet nurse and I run my own pet sitting business. This price is very reasonable for the treatment you describe. You do have to be careful if you get a quote for considerably less as it may mean they are using old fashioned anesthetics/drugs which aren't as safe as the new ones!
Good luck!0 -
Sounds reasonable to me. I think you'll find that half of that could be for the anaesthetic so you're paying £75 for the actual teeth cleaning and to have someone basically cut a hole in your cats head

I second that. I worked as a vet nurse for 8 years before DS came along.I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

I think it sounds reasonable. Don't forget, your pet had a general anaesthetic.
During that time an experienced veterinary nurse would have monitored your pet using modern anaesthetic monitoring equipment. The nursing staff work alongside veterinary surgeon in caring for your pet whilst they are under general anaesthesia.0 -
It seems reasonable to me too.
We have recently paid £230 for our old puss to have xrays and then unfortunately to be put to sleep (she had cancer that had spread).
We had no insurance either.
Needless to say, we have since insured our other kitty and our new (replacement
) kitten. (cashback on Quidco too!!) 0 -
Have you thought of toothpaste to minimise descaling? I give my cats mainly dry food & have never had to resort to either descaling or extraction. I currently give my two toothpaste on an `earbud': basically peel their `lips' backwards & smear some on either side. Worth a try to let them keep their teeth until they return to their `maker'. LOGIC, oral hygiene gel (esp for cats & dogs).:D0

I think it sounds quite reasonable......
If you break it down a little and think about what you're actually paying for it's not too bad. Most vets do a pre-anaesthetic blood test (to check organs can get rid of anaesthetic ok), then there's the anaesthetic, pain killers, anti inflamatories, antibiotics, and the time and care of the vets and nurses that will do the lump removal and dental work and monitor your dog till you come back. I know our vets have special charts they use after anaesthetic which requires the animals to be checked every 5 minutes while recovering from anaesthetic which can take quite a while.

It sounds very reasonable to me. About 4 years ago I was quoted around £150 for one cat dental. Last April one of my ferrets went in for a dental. She just had a good clean, as no teeth needed pulling (there's extra cost per tooth extraction), and that was just under £80. Another one of my ferrets had a warty growth removed from her arm just a few weeks ago. With the initial consult fee and then the op, it came in at just a little under £100. So, yours isn't a bad price at all:D
Hope all goes well for kitty:j0
