House alarm box lost PIN code
Wig
I am buying a house, there is an alarm fitted, I don't know the brand or model, yet. There is no code for the alarm.
What could I do to get the code or to get it reset?
I will try to get the deceased date of birth and that of their partner, maybe it could be one of those.
Thanks

Find out if there's a maintenance contract on the alarm - if there is the maintenance company will probably know the engineer's code, which you can usually use to set the user code. Assuming the alarm isn't currently set!0

Try Googling the model number of the control panel to see if you can find the default code. (I would be very surprised if there is no identifying model number anywhere on it).
You may find that the previous owners never changed it or if they did, they may have reset it before moving out.0 -
Often a factory default is achieved by powering off completely - opening up the box - installing a link on the board - powering on again - reprogram.
Pretty standard stuff for a competent alarm engineer - 1-2 hours including reprogramming assuming everything is working.0 -
Ask the EA to contact the executor, who might know it, if a relative or friend? No free lunch, and no free laptop

As Zagfles said, you'll need the engineer's code. The installer should know it. With that you can set new passcodes.
If not, you'll need a new control panel. My bet is that this is what you'll have to do.
(btw - I had the same situation when I moved in to this house. I spent a long long time trying to find options to reset it. Don't waste your time.).0 -
This happened to us, no one seemed to know the code and the previous owner had died, when we moved in we called an alarm engineer who sorted it out and had it reset to a code chosen by us in less than 10 minutes. He said it's quite common when people move into a house, not to know what the code is, and anyway you'd probably want to change the code even if you knew the old one.0
