Penalty for not updating v5 address
Hi all, I have just moved house last week and then got sent to work abroad 5 days later. Unfortunately my car has since been vandalised, my wife reported this to the police and they are coming out later to look into it.
The problem I have is that I have not updo the address on my vt document yet. It's actually still registered to my old address which I moved out of in nanuy(I temporarily stayed with my mum in between).
I have tried to do it online but can't since I don't can't find the old v5. I'm just wondering what the punishment for this is? I have tried to do this from abroad but I can't get the document out here (can't even download and print out)
Thanks in advance, I'm pretty worried here

Don't worry about it.
You can be fined up to £1,000 if you don’t tell DVLA when your address changes. https://www.gov.uk/change-name-address-v5c
Who actually really gets £1,000 fines in a court? Only courts can issue fines. That's very very unlikely. You might get an offer of an out of court penalty to avoid court but that will be no where near £1,000. You don't have to pay the penalty offered, you can take your chances in court.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

In theory a fine of up to £1000 (I think), but rarely prosecuted and highly unlikely in these circumstances - why so you think it would be ?
If asked, just explain you have recently moved and you are in the process of updating paperwork.
Nothing to worry about.0 -
is the address on the V5 a "serviceable" address?
IE: have you access to the property to receive mail , or have it forwarded, (did you say your mums?)
if so this is perfectly legalSave a Rachael
