That's wrong, there is daily capping applied to journeys to and from Gatwick, so long as you are travelling on Southern or Thameslink trains - however capping does not apply to journeys on Gatwick Express trains.

In general yes, except for the GX branded trains which arrive in a platform other than Platforms 13/14. Which, most days, is a minority admittedly.
