Cheapest way to send Euros abroad?

Hi,
I'm relatively new to this forum so please be gentle with me!
We're off to France in June and I'm paying for the cottage we are staying in directly to the owner, probably via Paypal.
They charge a 0.5% fee but I notice that unless you have the funds in Paypal, they charge you an extra 3.9% for the privilege.
I use Ebay/Paypal a lot as it's very convenient and I think 0.5% isn't a bad rate although I notice through this website there is Currencies Direct who have no fee.
The only thing is that Paypal don't tell you the exchange rate until you're ready to press send and sometimes it's not the best rate!
Anyone know of any other ways to send money abroad cheaply?
Thanks,
Mo

transferwise -fab rates, v quick and very reliable0

Be careful, if you transfer the money directly and it turns out to be a scam then you'll have little chance of getting the money back. I have done it in the past but I'm not sure that I would now unless I already knew the owners and was certain that it was their account details that I'd been given.0

Thanks for the advice but on this occasion I have used them before!
I will look out for others though!

Banks will issue a € cheque with a decent exchange rate for a small fee, £10 I think.0

A bank SEPA payment to a euro account costs £9.50 from some UK banks - cuts out the risk of a cheque going missing in the post.0 -
Your bank will be the most expensive, charges on top of a poor exchange rate. As a previous poster says use Transferwise. I have two Euro accounts one here in the UK one in Spain as we own a home there, having used many over the last six or seven years Transferwise has come out cheapest and very easy to deal withSave 12k in 2020 #19 £12,429.06/£14,0000

As has already been said TRANSFERWISE is the company to use, excellent and very competitive.0
