I will note bore you all with the details too long to write about but we moved into a brand new house Mid Sept 2015. I have spent the last 7 months chasing phoning complaining writing emailing to get them to register my gas meter.:mad:It had been registered to another property! The electricity meter was registered without any problem. Anyway yesterday at long last the whole matter is 99% resolved with a call being made to me today to double check all details, reading, information etc. I would like some form of compensation - I was told that £30 was the most they could offer - ive spent that on phone calls alone!! Can anyone advise me what they think would be a fair amount to ask for. The outstanding bill for gas is about £450. Any advice much appreciated.

Phone calls etc you need to quantify your losses .0

How do you normally pay your bills, quarterly or direct debit? I would work out the cheapest tariff you could have signed up to at that time on your usual payment method compared to what they've billed you for and work out the difference and ask for that amount. If they've already billed you on the cheapest tariff not much more than they've offered really.
Also ask them to spread the payment of the bill if you can't afford to pay this all off at once.
It also might be worth searching for a cheaper number on saynoto0870.com in future too.Make £10 per day-
June: £100/£3000 -
£50 is about the most you are likely to get on a goodwill basis-as above, you need to quantify your actual losses, rather than pluck a figure out of the air or ask on a forum how much you can get. Don't forget that you've enjoyed 7 months interest free credit in the meantime. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Good on you. :T
Go and see a solicitor, or even possibly a direct access barrister. Explain how much you wish to claim in compo and why, and try to get them to file a summons on you behalf.
If they won't, they should give you a full expanation why they won't.

I agree with Macman. Things do go wrong with new builds - particularly, if there are IGTs involved. Presumably, the OP was prudent and switched to the supplier's best tariff whilst this situation was being resolved. A simple check of the meter would enable the OP to calculate the amount owed. A small offer of compensation is reasonable.
Calling in lawyers before going to The EO is not a sensible way forward. The OP will probably lose unless he/she can identify the extent of any financial loss. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Good luck!
Very similar to my story , which started July 2014 just resolved this month.
New build and told meter registered to another house and SP were not the provider ETC. No paper bills ever received despite SP sending them. Online showed transactions one day and were then deleted as if they had never been there, including a credit of £1200. Luckily these had been screenshoted
EO advised £75 was a fair offer of compensation. Further discussion with SP saw this increased to around £350.0
