Is pet insurance worth it?

We have two cats who have both been insured since the 1st day we got them. One of them has only needed to use it a couple of times and the other is often in the vets for an ongoing condition.
They are both with Petplan, our premiums haven't gone up even though one cat has claimed about £700+ in one policy year.
I definitely would recommend getting pet insurance as you never know what might happen & vet bills are not cheap!0 -
The likes of PetPlan are certainly most expensive monthly from my experience, however as others have said the prices seem to be more consistent over time.
We're with DL and cancelled then took out a new policy each year with introductory discount until we had to make a claim/had a pre-existing condition I couldn't risk excluding from cancelling.
I've never had it for our cats over the years (would have been helpful though in hindsight), and have it only for our dog - the first animal we've insured. We've had a claim for just shy of £1000. He's had other conditions which we haven't claimed for because the excess wouldn't be far off overall that was our choice though, I could have opted for lower excess and claimed for them. I only have it because our breed is prone to very expensive (£000's) health problems and I didn't want to risk being in a situation where I couldn't afford to pay for treatment.
I can understand if others choose not to have it, I may well not have if we had a different breed, however I think it's wise if you don't have the savings or disposable income to pay for an emergency.0 -
Yes definitely worth it!!
We adopted 2 kittens in January -a 3month old and a 10month old, after my old boy (18yrs old) had passed. We have had cats for about 40 years and never had insurance for any of them so I ummed and aahed about getting it for these two. In the end I talked to my vet and decided to do it and boy am I glad I did.
The little cat has been poorly for the last 3/4 weeks with sickness and very high temperature so not eating. He's had blood tests, medication, overnight stay for fluids, special food for sensitive tummies and he's still not right.
Took him back today, got a bill for £88 for meds and he had more blood tests that have to go to a haemato!ogy lab which we don't know the cost of but probably around the £200 mark. So if they cost £200 the cost of treatment for him will be £736 up to now and we haven't found the cause yet so there'll be more meds when that's determined. Cost to me £85 plus 4 months premiums of £23(covers 2cats) yes definitely worth it.0
