I have never done this-currently with Halifax Clarity. If I did switch would I have to close down the account with Halifax? Or can the new credit card provider just take the balance?
I actually like the Clarity card for some of it's benefits though it doesn't offer the best rate of interest.

No. You can keep it open.0

The term switching is applied to bank accounts not credit cards.
You just transfer the balance from the old card to the new 0% card.
The old account remains open unless you choose to close it.0
