Never ever deal with a salesman(salesperson!) who calls at your door; their only aim is to get commission.

Find out what EDF tariff you are on and exactly what you are paying for gas and electricity. Look at your bill or ring EDF.

You will be paying a daily standing charge and a flat rate for gas/electricity.

    OR

A higher rate for some gas/electricity and then a lower rate.(that, in effect, is the same as a standing charge and it is what BG use on their tariffs - which is not a problem)

Also what discounts you get(if any)

BG do have a competitive on-line account but I suspect the salesperson will not be selling that.

Find out exactly the prices, in writing, for the BG tariff and compare. Post on here if you are not sure.

Do not sign anything - not even to say they have given you a quote or any other excuse. Just say you will take advice and let her know.
  • BG are quite cheap - go for the 'Click' tariff if you can BUT be warned - the switch over can take months! Don't switch directly though if you do decide, go through Uswitch or similar websites and get some cash back!

Make sure you get cashback if you plan to change gas/ electric. You can get £30+ through sites like topcashback or quidco.

Alternatively you can always use Martins links which give you around £15 to £20 if you don't want to open a cashback account.

Personally I wouldn't go for BG if they were half the price of the nearest competitor. There customer service is none existant and they always !!!! something up. :(

Do not buy from a door to door salesperson. Do your own research (and read Martins article). Otherwise you will just feel conned when you find out how much you could of saved.
