Possible stolen cheque.

Not really, the payee will be the person who the cheque was written to, which in most circumstances would be someone other than the person who wrote the cheque. Now in this case they may well be the same person, but it could also be that the fraudster wrote the cheque to someone else in an attempt to cover their tracks.
I would also expect that the bank that the cheque was paid into will have an image of it, although it may not be possible to obtain that without police involvement.
Yes of course, I took this as the person who stole the cheque has written the cheque to themselves and attempted to cash it, but it was intercepted due to funds, so I meant that the cheque maybe returned to the payee and not the owner of the chequebook.
Was the cheque actually cashed? I read this as it failed due to payment so there would be no record of the cheque being scanned as it wasn't presented for payment. Unless I am mistaken of course.
**edit just read the OP post, looks like a copy cheque request has been applied. The cheque will have to have been presented for payment as it can't bounce without being presented.0
