DIY SOS: Help repairing hole in plasterboard & PVC adhesive

What is the best way to repair a large hole (38 x 26 cm) in a plasterboard? I've already cut a hole and the replacement. In the process, I chipped a bit of the existing plaster removing the nails on the stud wood.

Can I use an off-cut of the plasterboard instead of a batten since I have no access to one?
I've aready cut a long piece to attach to the side should I do another for the top and bottom?
Can I use no more nails to attach the off-cuts to the existing wall?
What is the best way to attach the new board to the old one? No more nails or can I screw (3.5x 32mm) to the existing wood and thru the glued off-cuts?

Should I scrape an inch all round the exiting plaster? I've seen some don't and some do (Tommy Walsh's video)

I just realised that the Polycell multi purpose polyfilla tubs shrink & crack resistant filler (600g x 2)that I have may be unsuitable for the job. Can I use Polycell 2.5l plaster repair polyfilla ready mixed instead? Will this be enough to cover the hole and a bit of the surrounding? Any other recommendations?

Should I also buy a plaster trowel? Size recommendation? I only have a small one that's about 6cm. Any other tools do I need to buy before I get started?

My second problem:
What is the best way to fix the gap/hole in the bottom back door? The piece that have come loose is incomplete so even after attaching to the door, I still need to cover up the hole.

Should I just foam the hole and sand smooth OR stick the old plastic and foam the rest of the gap? Recommendations of methods and supply please? The plastic to be attached is not straight so if gluing, I prefer one that is fast drying so I won't have to stay to long for it to remain in place.

Thanks.

I would in general DIY, cut the hole into a square, replacing with a squared piece of plaster of the same size, filling\smoothing in the border seals with plaster filler.
