If you're going up a ladder to do the gutters, I'd recommend a ladder stand-off (available from all good DIY stores). It makes the ladder more stable, and pushes you out from the wall a bit, so you don't have to bend over backwards to reach things.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Replacing the lock on a upvc door is really simple, it's a single screw usually.
The thing to watch is that UPVC door locks come in all sorts of different sizes, so you need to measure the old one from the centre of the screw hole to the front, and the back.

If you go with a better lock such as an anti break type (like the ABS Avocet) you need to make sure the you get the front and back measurements right as the front has a sacrificial part so if someone tries to force it the lock will break, but in such a way that it remains locked and can still be undone from inside.

It's about a five minute job to take the lock out, measure it and refit it, and about the same to replace it with the new one.

If you own a house you really need to start having a go at DIY. If you dont, you either end up paying a fortune over you life for every little thing that breaks. Or you end up in a broken shithole because you cant do it and cant afford to get it done.

Yes you will make mistakes. But you will learn and get better. Google can tell you how to do anything these days. Then just need to have tools and willingness to give it a go.

    Good luck!

Brilliant advice! And love that the swear filter didn't pick that up ;)

Also watch youtube videos. There's one for everything. We managed to fit our bath/shower using youtube after hubby put a hole in our old one. (and no leaks)

Is the PVC door unlocking but not opening? If that is the problem then it is likely that the door has dropped. This is an easy fix, all you need is some allen keys. Where the hinges are you'll see some plastic caps, you pop these off and wind the allen screw in or our to level up the door. Plenty of videos on youtube but it is a no cost fix providing you have a set of allen keys and only a few pounds if you don't.

    Good luck

It could also be that the cartridge (the bit that fits right the way along the door edge) needs lubricating or is damaged. Should still be an easy fix unless the door is ancient.

Agree with the advice to try DIY. You really can find out how to do anything by googling.
However, I'm happy to pay someone to clean guttering. Its pretty cheap - £30 or so. I'm not particularly bad with heights, but I got halfway up and thought no way not worth the risk.
