Goldiegirl I have meniers and its awful - I have a grommet in and have had courses of steroid injections in my ear. It has been dormant since 2013 and has came back with a vengeance! I was diagnosed in 2009 and have relied very little on medication up until this point - id love to hear more about the low salt diet as I always cook from scratch and dont put salt on my food but will put some in my cooking.
Ill.join you Sammy as I have a budget of £250 but would love to see if I can lower it again.Living the simple life0 -

Mines been dormant since August 2014, but I know it could come back at any time, but it must be really disappointing for you after three years of being clear.
I was told by my consultant that they believe Menieres is caused by a sodium imbalance in the ear, so you can improve this be reducing sodium in your diet.
When I first started I restricted my salt intake to 1g a day. Now I'm in a remission period I tend to average around 2g a day.
I cook most things from scratch, and never add any salt to my cooking.
The only exception to that is for bread, rolls and pizza dough. I make my own bread in a bread maker, and use Lo salt, instead of normal salt.
For stock cubes I use the Kallo range, which has only a very small amount of salt in.
The trick is to check the labels of everything you buy, as salt lurks everywhere. It's in breakfast cereals, so I have things like porridge, shredded wheat or muesli.
Things like tinned tomatoes or passata can have salt in, yet other brands have none, so I always make sure I get the ones with no salt.
Yoghurt is another thing that can have more salt in than you'd think. I've started making my own with Easi Yo, which only has a trace of salt.
The trick is to never add salt, and make everything as low in salt as you can. Things like bacon are off the menu, but I have been able to find some Sainsburys sausages which are acceptable for an occasional treat. I even make a pizza which is acceptably low in salt.
Things like tinned soup and baked beans are high in salt - so I make my own. My baked beans are better than any I've had before.
For a savoury treat, M&S do salt free crisps.
These things aren't always the cheapest option, but for me it's worth paying a bit extra if something is lower in salt.
This approach seems to have worked for me
I hope your Menieres subsides soon. If you want a helpful read, the Meniere Man books are very good.

I noticed that you said you had an MRI scan - was that in connection with the vertigo?
I suffered with vertigo a couple of years ago, and had to have an MRI scan.
I was eventually diagnosed with Meniere's Disease, which I now control with a low salt diet.
I'm probably not the best person to advise about feeding a family on £200, as I spend about £225 for the two of us.... but should you need it, I've got loads of tips about a low salt diet!
Hi Goldie,
Yes it is for the Vertigo. I am currently 3 years into suffering with Labyrinthitis. My doctor hasn't tested me for MS yet but I am expecting a Menieres diagnosis. I had a good year last year where I had small dizzy spells but took no medication and then I caught a horrendous cold the beginning of 2016 and am now back on Serc. Worst illness I think I have ever experienced.......my doctor has told me to avoid caffeine, fizzy drinks, cheese and chocolate as this makes thing worse. I don't drink alcohol at all. Never have so that was no problem. I am just waiting on results now but I get a horrid feeling if they come back clear then the ENT clinic want to discharge me from their care. :-/ I would be very interested in hearing more about your low sodium/low salt experiences if you fancy moving it to PM.
iris - I hope your hubby is ok. I've never heard of that. X
Thank you all for the kind welcomes back and hellos! Hester I have stopped writing my blog at the minute as I'm technically without internet but my neighbour that I unofficially care for lets me borrow her WiFi:-) so I can still talk but I will be restarting a new blog soon I think since times have changed and I've grown up a bit
apparently!
Thank you for all the congratulations too! We had a bit of a hiccup before we got engaged (no cheating or anything bad but more an unknown revelation) but we will have been married for2 years this September :-)
I'll be honest this week has been absolutely shocking as far as bad luck goes and just bad timing so its nice to be home with familiar faces and names. JackieO I always thought of you as my unofficial nanna of the boards as I remember all those years ago getting lots of advice from you when I was a 19 year old new mummy and trying to figure out to care for Ben and run my first house by myself!
Anyone else who wants to join - welcome aboard! I'm sat working out money at the minute and planning bills.
How has everyone else's day been???

I have just arrived back home from my spring break in Staffordshire with mildest friend and have had 250 miles of dreadful rain on the motorways.Blooming glad to be indoors at long last with my feet up.
I brought some veg back from the little town I was staying in and some gorgeous ham from the tiny buttermarket there, so I shan't be going anywhere near a shop tomorrow.
Still go a bag of clothes to unpack but I'll do that tomorrow its raining cats and dogs here in Kent so there is no point doing it until tomorrow anyway.
Looking forward to seeing how you get on
well done honey
JackieO xx
P.S.my DGS Ben is 21 this year and at UniDD's last 'baby' Mikey is 12 in June

Probably teaching Grandma to suck eggs but a very good way of making sure everyone is full and stretching those pennies is to make home made vegetable soups and have a bowl of soup before you have your main meal every day. It really helps take the edge off appetites and means that you don't need so much meat on your plate to satisfy you. Old fashioned milk puddings like rice, ground rice, semolina after your main meal also work very well if you like them, have a smaller main plate and the milky cereal fills you up and stops the rumbling tums.0
