I really don't think you can train a cat to behave just how you would like, especially one which you haven't had from a kitten. Our cat (adopted from the RSPCA) can't resist a closed door (including wardrobes, cupboards etc, which she will decide she needs to try to get into every now and then), and almost every night she wakes us up at about 5am scratching on the bedroom door. She doesn't want food (or to go out - she has a cat flap), she just likes to say hello and to have a warm up under the duvet. Our options are to either leave the bedroom door open (and risk having a live mouse dropped on the bed which she's brought in) or keep the door shut and know we'll be woken up by her scratching at some point. We choose the latter. I wouldn't dream of shutting her outside all night because of this, she's part of the family and I think with cats you have to accept that they won't always behave as you'd ideally like.
If your cat is waking you up just for food, then as other posters have said, an automatic feeder is the obvious answer.0 -
It's not a meat dispenser that you need as such. It's a dish with a timer. You put the meat in close it, set the release and go off to bed for a peaceful night..you hope!
Plenty of timer dishes for cats on the net.Norn Iron Club member 4730 -
