Council tax reduction eligibility?

Morning,
Quick question. I was under the impression that if there was only one wage earning adult in a property, and her husband (i.e. me!) was unemployed, then this would qualify for a 25% council tax reduction. But having looked at the gov.uk pages, I'm not so sure any more. I'm on contribution based JSA right now and this doesn't seem to be one of the qualifying criteria. The fact that we are actually partners also doesn't seem to help...
Am I missing something or is there really no reduction available in my situation?
Also, bonus question - once my 6 months of cont based JSA runs out, will I still get my NI stamp paid, or is that cut off as well?
cheers...

Afraid there is no such reduction. However if your wife is on a low income it might be worth applying to the councils council tax reduction scheme (rebadged council tax benefit).
As regards the 6 months, again it depends on your wife's income & if you have kids.0 -
Thank you. Oh well, never mind. I'm probably just thinking back to the days when I was living with a past GF who was also a student, and we got a 25% reduction then... Long time ago!
Sadly my wife's income is well into 6 figures so I guess that's not going to play out too well for me (oh to have my problems eh...).0 -
You have 6 figure salary coming into the household and you want a CT reduction.....Jesus it beggars belief0

See OP's other posts. They seem to like asking 'cheeky' questions about what benefits they can/cannot get with their untold wealth and investments and salary :P0 -
Being a student is different to being unemployed in terms of council tax.Notnewnotold wrote: »Thank you. Oh well, never mind. I'm probably just thinking back to the days when I was living with a past GF who was also a student, and we got a 25% reduction then... Long time ago!
With students it is as though they don't exist. So two adults in the property, one a student, gets the 25% discount because it is as though there is only one adult in the property.
Unemployed people do exist, and so your bill is for the full amount as there are two adults in the property. You may be able to get council tax benefit, but that would depend on joint income. Which sounds like you wouldn't qualify.0 -
Oh I'm sorry, I was under the impression this was meant to be a board for advice on what entitlements may exist rather than for passing judgement over what someone 'deserves' to have.
Personally I don't feel embarrassed in the slightest to claim benefits I'm entitled to given the vast amount of tax I've paid into the system over the years (including the 45% of my JSA that they will want back when I fill in my tax return). And if I am not entitled, then I will have no complaints.
EDIT: thanks Jimmy, this wasn't aimed at you, posts crossed...0 -

I would have thought that ( given your/ your wife's education), it would be simple enough for you to check any entitlement on your council's/ the government's web site?0 -

I did, both on gov.uk (as per my OP) and on my council's. As I could not find a specific entitlement, I thought I'd double check with the experts here, even if only to confirm what I thought...
Job done. Thank you.0 -
