Hi there
peel and slice potatoes and onions.... layer up in a baking dish...season between each layer, pour in water, milk or stock..about half way up.. cover in foil and bake until soft..then remove the foil and let the top crisp up..
I love that on its own, with a slice of homemade bread
You can put corned beef in the layers, or meat(allow longer, slower cooking this way)....or put bacon on the top for the last 10 mins....
Milk or stock gives you much more taste....
Just remembered...
cheese n potato pie
Make mashed potatoe as normal... add fried onions and a bit of grated cheese, mix well and then pile into a dish..dot with butter.marge and shove into a hot oven so the top crisps up..the top will taste cheesy but without the greasy cheese flavour...its lovely with baked beans..and you can pile this filling in pastry to make a pie or pasties too-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -

Use as toppings for shepherds pie, hot pot, you can get jars of 'potato bake' which is a sauce you pour over potatoes and bake in the oven.
Sausages and Mash........mmmmmmmmm! You can make sort of grated potato cakes with some ham - sure there'll be a recipe on the internet somewhere.0 -
thanks to everyone, especially you pink, ill check out those links today!!! xxx0

oooh, I love potatoes, some great ideas on this thread

anyway, one of my favourites, these come out like a cross between baked potato, wedges & chips & are more or less calorific/healthy depending on how much oil you use
1) heat your oven to 200/GM6
2) pour some oil into a shallow roasting tin & spread it about, you can get away with as little as a teaspoon if you're avoiding too much fat
3) scrub large-ish poatatoes, lay on a board & cut in half lengthways
4) lay the potatoes cut side down on the tray
5) bake for 1-1 1/2 hours till underside is crispy & insides are soft
nice with just about anything, but if you're being indulgent they're wonderful turned over & split, stuffed with too much butter & topped with freshly ground salt & pepper ... bad bad bad
King Edwards & any of the red potatoes give a crisper result than the standard white variety
& the oil you use can be used to ring the changes with the flavour, my favourite is cold pressed Sunflower oil0 -
