Eon Underestimated electricity usage!

As above and be aware that the other suppliers saving is also an estimate .0

I phoned up and they said the most they can knock it down to is 79 a month, then anything left over can be worked into next years bill. I called before I read anything about them working with me to find a payment that suits us both. I'm still thinking 79 is still too much per month at the moment0

£79 still too much ?
Get back onto Eon and tell them what you can afford, the ideal way to this is by Email so that there is a paper trail0 -
Don't forget that you've got to pay for what you are actually using as well as pay off the arrears so if your original DD wasn't enough then you've got to pay more anyway even if you didn't have arrears.
So if you are £285 in arrears then you've got to increase your current direct debit by 285/12 = £24 to cover what you use plus another £24 to pay off your arrears in 12 months. That makes £31+£24+£24 = £79
Don't forget you wont be allowed to move suppliers until you've paid off any outstanding debts so it's in your own interest to whittle it away as soon as you can.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
The sort of person who is not organised enough to check their usage is also likely to gamble with only keeping their bank account credited with a minimal amount to cover debits - so an alternative algorithm with narrower allowances would have left you with bank charges and penalties to pay when the Direct Debit instalment changed every couple of months.
Many people want to choose how to handle actual usage themselves - it is up to you to check readings and then decide whether to save up as you go along or pay a lump sum from one month's salary or pay a new instalment amount.
It may be annoying the first time it happens - but lesson learned and you don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater by creating demand for suppliers to change. There are enough unhappy intended unintended consequences of reforms as is.0 -

Morning andy3050 thanks for the reply.
Thanks matelodave I agree.
I think you may need to monitor how much you're actually using as the payments need to cover this first and foremost. We're also coming in to better weather so you should start to see a difference.
Then the payments need to pay off the balance that's currently on the account over a number of months, this, as we say can be extended if you're having problems or there has been some issues on the account. In this case I'm not sure what would be offered as this would be looked at by a team that can spread balances.
As matelodave has also said, the payments do need increasing and as we keep getting regular reads the more accurate the account will be.
Thank you

Hi thanks for the reply, I'm just getting used to all this as its my first home but we are getting on top of it now.
Just one more question, I've been reading about the smart meters and that you go pay as you go on them. The smart payg would be perfect for me as our meter is locked away and can only be accessed when the caretaker is on the premises. I think one of these would really help me out but I can't seem to find how to get one, only that I can register interest0 -

Good morning andy3050, thanks for the reply.
I'm sorry you couldn't find the information you were looking for, I'm not allowed to post links on the forums but if you go our website, click 'smartmeters' they'll be a little list on the left hand side and it gives loads of info on there, it says...
At the moment it's not possible to install a smart meter for apartments when the meters are in locked away cupboards.
So I'm sorry I don't think this is possible at the moment.
Thank you

I'm not sure what supplier has done it but I know there are smart meters in there already, my caretaker confirming one had been done in the last few weeks0

This isn't really my area of expertise.
The best thing to do would be to speak to our smart department, they deal with this as specialists and can give you all the info you need.
