Inheritance on esa.

Hi,
Just been reading another thread regarding inheritance. I will have about €10,000 (euro) coming to me in the next month or so from Ireland. This will be about £6,500 (sterling) by the time I transfer over. I am on contributions based esa so will I have to declare it?
Also, I have been getting esa cont. based full rate since May last year. How long will my ni contributions last for? I have worked for the previous 18 years prior to this. Thanks.

Your inheritance would only effect your ESA if it was income related ESA, ESA ends after 365 if in WRAG, you would then need to apply for income related unless your in the Support Group which is not restricted to the 365 day rule.0

The current exchange rate will actually make it about £8k but, even if on Income Related ESA, it would only reduce your payment by about £8 per week.
Although the inheritance won't affect Conts based ESA you really should tell them about ANY change of circumstances.
Payment, if in the WRAG, will cease after 365 days but I think the claim remains open and NI contribution credits will continue to be applied. I'm sure somebody else will confirm whether that is correct or not.0
