Agent changes booking

Got an email from the online agent saying that our flight has been put back 24 hours (flying in August). The flights are £3500. Options:
-Accept and lose a days holiday
- Cancel, be charged £300 and need to wait 8 weeks for our money back
We will cancel (we have booked another flight but have had to pay credit card charges and have obviously now spent £7000) but do not want to accept the £300 and the delay in getting our money back.
One email has reduced the charge to £200 (a "£100 discount").
Where do we stand on this?!
Cheers

they have rescheduled the flight by 24 hours or cancelled the flight and put you on one 24 hours earlier should be a clear case of full refund.
If you are querying the agents charge you will need to their T&Cs re their charges. The delay will be because they will need to wait for the money back from the airline before they can refund you,,,
I cancelled a fully refundable ticket 3 hours after booking recently, booked direct with airline, and it took 4 weeks for the refund to appear. you will have an extra step as you have an agent. When they are saying 8 weeks they will mean 'up to 8 weeks' it should be closer to 4-5 but they have no control over the airline refund timelines so will err on caution

Assuming you are flying out of an airport within the EU (including Britain)...

24 hours is a major change, so you have a right to get ALL your money back.

If you think that eight weeks is too long to wait, contact your card issuer and request a 'chargeback'.

Does that definitely apply to travel agents though? Obviously any reputable one would refund with no charge, but if their terms and conditions gave a £300 charge are they allowed to charge it? (Though £300 seems ridiculously excessive - it sounds more like they're passing on a mythical airline cancellation fee).

Give us some details of the airline and route, airlines normally refund in full if you cancel because the flight no longer operates, are there six of you travelling and the cancellation fee is £50 each by chance? Even then, since you are not the one cancelling I would push the charge back and ask why
