Toilet recommendations

I'm having a new wet room built. I've starting looking for fittings, and find that toilets have become very complex since I last bought one!

In particular, I've read articles about modern flush mechanisms, some of which seem to work better than others in view of limiting the water used per flush.

Any recommendations about good modern toilets? I'm looking for something a bit taller than the 400mm standard height pan, and a good flush.

I prefer a modern design rather than Victorian or Edwardian.

If your having a wetroom I'd always suggest wall hung. Keeps the floor free of any penetrations

    Brands to look at

    Roca

    Twyfords

    Ideal standard

    Duravit

All flushes are now 6l max. Avoid cable operated push buttons as these rust and corroded. End up with a sticky button or jamming

Pneumatic cisterns are a little better from the likes of macdee or grohe but still not 100% reliable . Hoses can pop off or the membrane in the button can tear

Geberit are by far the market leaders with excellent reliability . Wall hung frames, concealed cisterns and cistern internals are all available . Used by motorway services etc so have a huge volume of traffic with a tiny failure rate

Thanks, Andyhop. I really dislike wall hung, and was thinking of close-coupled.

What are the options if I avoid cable operated push buttons?

I had Ideal Standard before and this lasted well in my old house, so i may go with this again, but will also look at the other brands you suggest.

Ideals close coupled will be fine. Push operated levers

Tempo stuff is good for the money, as is concept.

  • Very happy with the toilet we chose for our shower room. I wanted a concealed cistern and wall hung pan. I narrowed the choice down to Grohe and Gerberit and ended up going with Grohe as it was a little cheaper.

This is the set I got from Plumbing For Less, I couldn't find it much cheaper (I think Amazon may have had the set at a similar price):

Other flush plates are available. The flush is excellent.

For the toilet itself, we went with a RAK ceramic toilet with a soft close seat, which has an easy release function so you can remove it for cleaning. Happy with the toilet although for some reason weird streaks have appeared appeared on the seat and I'm in the process of getting it exchanged. Comfortable though. I got this from Victorian Plumbing:

That does bring the whole package to around £375 though so not necessarily the cheap option, but I'm very happy with it - once boxed in and tiled it looks great.
