in Credit cards
Phoned Vanquis after my application got the 'cancelled due to duplicate app' page.
They've said on the phone that I had an account in 2013 (correct - this defaulted in Bankruptcy) and that I can't have another account as it's a 'lifetime card'.... unless they send me a pre-approved mailing offering me one then sod off
Is that right!? I'm sure I've seen instances of people closing then re-opening.
Unless he meant default and you're out - which is fair enough, but Vanquis are aimed at preciously the type of people who may well go bankrupt once!
Has anyone had a Vanquis, defaulted and then re-applied successfully...???
I need to build my credit file back up. All I've got are JD Williams accounts (left practically on zero unless something is on sale) & bank accounts reporting to CRAs.
Aqua/Cap1 were also creditors in my bankruptcy 2 years ago - they both declined me and declined on appeal too. Worried nobody will take me now!?

Well, 2-3 yeas from bankruptcy is far too short time for getting new credit.
I think your chances are very slim until 6 years pass.
Credit is very easy to ruin, and far more difficult to "build back up".0 -
I had a vanquis a few years ago which i entered into a arrangement - however they have left a default on my file which was unaware off. its not a Hugh amount of money and i will pay it off to see if they can put default satisfied on my file.
Since then ive ran my aqua perfectly cleared the balance in full most months and never missed a payment - i constantly get credit limit increases but i just ignore them and never spend more than a tank of fuel a month.
I wouldn't mind a vanquis again i was upgraded to a gold card.0 -
6 years?! I understand with the main banks etc, but Vanquis, Aqua et al???
In theory I could get a mortgage in October (if I had a great deposit). Looks like I'll have to just keep trying Aqua & Cap 1 every 6 months or so then!
Don't particularly want a card as such, but it would be nice to have car hire pre-auths blocked on a credit card rather than debit! And some half decent history, other than mail order & bank accounts, before a mortgage app0 -
I had a vanquis card that was defaulted....I tried again to apply and had the same duplicate application message.
A few months later this I tried for the Argos credit card also issued by vanquis and that was accepted. It was however more than 6 years after the default.0 -
like anyone will give u a card if you screwed them over before wht a tool lol!0

It's one thing to apply to vanquis with a default and bankruptcy on your file.
Applying to them when you have a default and bankruptcy *in which vanquis themselves lost money* 3 years ago was obviously going to be a no.
If you borrowed £50 from me and then went "HA, I'M BANKRUPT SO DON'T HAVE TO PAY YOU!!" then 3 years later asked me to borrow £50, I'd tell you where to go.
Vanquis cannot store details of a closed account forever, although they could store details of this new application (which would say why they declined you) for another 6 years, so you may well get a new card from them if you wait 6 years from your last application.
Cut your appetite for credit.0 -

Agree with your sentiments but they can hold your records for far longer than six years. This applies to credits and things such as offers, it's been reported that people receiving switching bonuses for first direct have been refused a second bite ten or fifteent year skater because they've already benefitted from the offer that long before, indicating the length of time records may be held by institutions.0 -

Interesting, records can't legally be held indefinitely, but there is no specified time period, it's supposed to be "reasonable", which for most things credit related seems to have been accepted to be 6 years.

I think you could argue that retention for 10-15 years is unreasonable, but I completely see that it could happen.0 -
As they say prove they hold itDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

You be surprised how forgiven banks can be. As an ex bankrupt myself a lot of creditors in my bankruptcy has given me accounts. Admittedly I waited the whole 6 years before re applying.
Vanquis
Barclaycard
Capital One
Shop Direct
Next
They have all given a second chance. However I completely understand if previous creditors want to decline me as they did loose their money.0
