Conditioner only

I'm going to try conditioner only. It makes sense as I wash my hair in the bath so only get one go at a rinse. I gather it can also be good for your hair and have bought the advised non silicone conditioner.

A bit nervous though! Has anyone else tried it? If it works for me I will try it on my three year old too, as she hates having her hair washed more than once a week anyone so no-poo might be a good thing for her ;)

  • Hi there,
    No it's not just you!
Although I'm currently washing hair with some near-natural shampoos, I have done coconut oil only for months at a time before. Makes the hair look beautiful.
My 9 year old twins have long hair and very rarely wash it (except when it gets food in it). They use a combi of natural conditioner and coconut oil and their hair is AMAZING :-)
I have a fab link for discount organic virgin coconut oil and natural organic conditioners, but not sure if I'm allowed to share it here...?
I guess you could message me if you'd like further detail, I don't want to break any rules!!

I do mostly conditioner only. The only reason I use shampoo once a week or so is because I am using minoxidil and I like to wash out the buildup. In between washes I do conditioner only. Being on a budget and thinking I don't want my cond full of cons I use Vo5 conditioners (the American version) which I got from Pounland a few years ago and I stocked up.

I have also used Mane n'Tail conditioner (fab) and Herbal Essences Hydration (I love the smell).

@nouveaunutrition: "natural conditioner and coconut oil". How do you combine conditioner and coconut oil? And, doesn't it leave hair greasy?

I do the opposite and only use shampoo. My hairdresser recommended this. I rub a bit of argan oil on after, which makes my hair feel soft.

A hairdresser told friend that shampoos are too strong and that diluting is a good idea.

I also find that diluted shampoo lathers more easily for my own hair and the dogs' (though their shampoo bottle suggests that it must be diluted) .

I don't use shampoo or conditioner on my hair, just wet it when in the bath or shower. Started three years ago when I had a frozen shoulder and couldn't lift my arm up to put shampoo on my head.

Fortunately I have what is probably normal hair in that its never been greasy or particularly dry. It was two years before I told my hairdresser that I hadn't washed it and she was amazed. I get a wet cut at the hairdresser not so much that I don't want shampoo on it but because I don't like her back wash :D
Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

Ive tried CO. If you can get through the first few days youve probably cracked it.

My hair was lovely when i CO'd only it. Only problem was it really did need washing every day as my hair is quite fine.

I use it now and then, i think you might struggle with rinsing it in the bath as one of the key points is to rinse, rinse and rinse.

I have tried it and my hair loved it but my scalp didn't. I know use a sulphate free shampoo and intensive masque with every wash, I use Shea moisture raw Shea.

I have thick,curly/frizzy and dry hair though so would have liked to get on better with co-washing.
