    I don't understand the family dynamic here.
    Regardless of the legal position, they need to get around a table and discuss what has happened, what people believed was happening and what they think should happen from now on.

    Otherwise this family is going to be torn apart.

    In the sons' position as so far described, I'd take legal advice before entering in to any discussion with the parents/siblings.

    Also have the parents become sitting tenants with all the rights that entails due to them having lived there with no tenancy agreement etc.
