Unwanted Router (disposal of?)

I no longer need a TTalk wireless router that I haven't used for over 5 years (now with Plusnet).

Can I just give it away on Freecycle? Do I remove the "Network Name" and "Password" information sticker?

By all means give it away but there may be no takers even for free.

The sticker relates to the WiFi signal and is in no way confidential now you no longer use it.

Even the userid/password for the ADSL connection is almost certainly of no use to anybody else.

Thank you - reluctant to throw anything away that might be of use to somebody.

No harm in offering it but these days just about every ISP offers a free router and those choosing one that doesn't or wishing to use their own instead will be wanting something more upmarket. Depending on model they can often be pressed into use as a WiFi access point but purpose built ones are going to be better.

Well there have been situations in the past with plusnet where a plusnet router with the username and password in place was sold by a plusnet user on ebay, bought by another user of plusnet, plugged in and it logged in as the original user and dumped the GB of usage onto the account of the user who sold it.

It was remarked at the time that it was surprising that the system allowed two instances of the same username/ID to be active at the same time on different lines, as the user who sold it was now using a different router on the plusnet system.

This is or rather was possible becuase plusnet did not cross check against the phone number being used as well as the username and password. Whether this particular gotcha still exists I've no idea but a full factory reset to the router is highly recommended before you sell it.

It's nice of you to offer to someone, but a 5 year old router that is from an ISP is probably worth nothing, I think you would struggle to pay someone to take it from you.

I think a trip to the bin is all it is good for tbh

It was the metaphorical bin to which I was referring, I of course meant to dispose of in the correct manner, recycling if possible.

That's exactly how I intend to dispose of it (I too refer to 'binning it' as meaning getting rid of something in the most environmentally friendly manner) - it's now in the pile for the local recycling centre.:)
