Gas smart meter Fail
Hi All
So a week ago I had new smart meters installed for Gas and Electricity, with the aim of being able to closely monitor my energy usage. The electricity meter seems to be updating fine although the gas meter does not seem to be registering. Every day a charge of 26p is showing regardless of my gas usage - with no updates showing online at my billing account. So the question is can british gas charge me for the last week if they have no usage data and does anyone know what the daily charge of 26p is ?
Thanks

The daily charge will be the daily standing charge which most suppliers charge regardless of usage. It's to cover the suppliers costs to supply you such as distribution charges and meter maintenance.
Yes they can charge you for the last week. If they can get a meter reading from the meter they will use that, if not they would probably estimate what you've used based on previous usage.Make £10 per day-
June: £100/£3000 -
The daily standing charge of course is payable and its 26 p a day with BG. Pity you missed the recent BG collective which lowered it to 19p a day so keep an eye out for any more like that. and the charge is shown on the smart meter in house monitor. Are you actually looking at the smart meter itself..not the gizmo you plug in a wall socket ? Try pressing the red button twice to see the "meter index " before claiming that the meter has failed. So far In the 8 years I ve been checking these meters (Siemens E6 ) I ve only found the odd one with a duff battery with screen remaining blank. Try pressing the black button if that is the case. I got the reading that way the last blank screen I found.0

Check the KW button, this may display usage.
There is a fault where the tariff doesn't come down the IHDs. You can check this, Menu>tariff>gas, If the price per kwh is 0.000 then there is no tariff on the display.
If there is registered usage by pressing the KW button under the left screen, then its reading just fine.0 -
Yes because you've been paying British gas for it ever since being on this tariff.
If you don't want to pay a standing charge, look at this post https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/70560495#Comment_705604950
