- Start updating address with the companies also, did help that I moved from my parents so any forgotton was sent to my parents and then I updated.
- I have a double glazing front door, and it was easy to change, I just bought a new barrel, and the screws are on the inside of the door (this is coming from me, I'm the worst at DIY)0 -
Postal redirection takes about a week to take effect so, if you have a gap between exchange and completion, fill in the form a week before completion, if you've exchanged. Otherwise, post will still be going to your old address for a few days after you move.
We left some A4 envelopes with large letter stamps on, addressed to our new house, for our buyers with a note asking if they'd mind using them to send on any post that missed the redirection. They did use a couple of them.
Meter readings - do on the day. You can phone utility companies in the next few days - doesn't have to be right on that day if you're too busy. They'll try and talk to you about fixed price deals, etc. You may want to just sign up on standard tariff to start with - it's more expensive but you're not tied in to a contract period, so you can then shop around after a few weeks when the chaos dies down. You can also look at switching then - to start with you'll sign up with whoever the previous vendor was using.
There's a fairly good checklist of people to update here:
