Is this PPI?

I hope someone can help me, as I may be barking up the wrong tree, as I am not certain that my situation qualifies for PPI reclaim or not. I'll try to be brief:
- In 1999 we (my husband & I) took out a mortgage, along with 2 policies called 'Progressive Protection Assurance' or as the person who sold/mis-sold them to us along with our mortgage, referred to them as Critical Illness Cover.
- I do feel it was mis-sold as I felt worried not to take it out for fear I would not be able to pay my mortgage should either of us develop a critical illness
- We paid our mortgage off by 2011 so I immediately cancelled the policy in my name (no monies refunded), as my one cost so much more per month than that of my husband
- It was taken out with Royal & Sun Alliance & is nowadays being administered by Phoenix
- Is this policy classed as PPI ?
- Is there a chance of being able to get this back at all?
I don't want to go through all of the procedures if I am way off the mark & this is not within the PPI remit/category & that a claim is not possible.
Any advice would be gratefully received, many thanks in advance ....

Critical illness cover is not PPI. It is a bit like asking if your car insurance is PPI.- Is there a chance of being able to get this back at all?
No. Its a bit like asking if you should have your car insurance premiums back.... get where we are going with this
CIC is frequently put in place with mortgages. Normally life cover with CI attached is the standard product. Nothing wrong with it and quite normal.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). No. Critical Illness cover is classed as Critical Illness cover..- Is this policy classed as PPI ?
Don't assume all insurance is PPI
Don't assume PPI was always mis-sold.
Your reasoning here is flawed.I do feel it was mis-sold as I felt worried not to take it out for fear I would not be able to pay my mortgage should either of us develop a critical illness
Why would the insurance be mis-sold because it covered an eventuality you were fearful of?
You actually give a perfect example of how the insurance was of use to you.0 -
