The land registry charge was quoted as £95, but apparently it should be £135. And then there is an additional charge of £10 that isn't detailed in the costs breakdown - it says 'Electronic Client Identification Fee' and the cost just states 'schemas'. It appears to be £10 though as that's the difference between the amounts detailed and the total cost. I found this a little confusing to be honest.

The firm was recommended by a friend and also by someone on this forum.

In the grand scheme of things I know it's not a massive amount and I should just roll over and accept defeat - I just feel like if it's happening now what's to say it won't happen again with higher amounts.

Well, that isn't the solicitor's fee - that's a cost which the Land Registry charges and which you happen to pay via your solicitor. You'll have to pay the appropriate fee for your transaction which the LR charges at that date, no matter who your solicitor is (or even if you do your conveyancing yourself).

    ^^^ what davidmcn says ^^^^

If a friend of yours recommended them then I would say to stay with this firm.

There is no firm in the world where human error doesn't happen

I appreciate that it is a land registry fee and not a solicitors fee, my point was that it was their error - essentially they could adjust their legal charges accordingly to account for the mistake. Given that it is apparent solicitors don't really work this way, I can see it's not worth the hassle to argue it any further. They have removed the £10 charge by way of a compromise. Better than nothing I suppose. I'm sensing the house buying process will get a lot more complex than this further along the line!

Honestly, this will be the least of your issues. Just going through a house purchase and selling myself. Solicitors are somewhat slow but its the general public, people saying they have the funds when in fact they have just APPLIED for the funds. People saying they will move into rented and are fibbing. £50 will be but a distant memory when you find that house purchasing is a complete nightmare!
