Which worktops?

Thanks everyone for your replies.

I think, after weighing it all up, we're going to try and find a nice laminate. Ikea do a laminate effect oak which the incredibly helpful kitchen planner recommended to us rather than having the solid oak at the time when we were ordering our kitchen -ven though it was a lot cheaper she said it was much more practical, etc.

Will report back on my findings !!

They both come in loads of colours so plenty of choice (a quick google search will take you to the official websites where you can see the full range of colours). Places like MFI and Magnet both have samples in store if you wanted to take a look, but they wont sell you it unless you are buying a full kitchen.
