Pergola - vine and roof covering options

Hi all,

Having just built this pergola in our garden, we are now keen to cover the canape/top of it and also get some nice vines growing up the posts etc.

Bamboo seems like the obvious answer for the top covering but if anyone has any more innovative ideas that would be great.

Eventually will add patio stones underneath it so it will become an alfresco dining area with table and chairs.

If you plant a grape vine (depends on how far north you are) then once that's grown for a few years it will easily cover the top, might even give you a few grapes.

They look nice in summer and autumn but they do need pruning each year, and more work than bamboo,
