Power lines and phone line income?

Hi, I keep getting letters from solicitors, telling me I can claim money from the electricity company because there are wires travelling over my land. I don't respond because they take 15%-20% and I think its probably not worth the hassle. However I would be pleased to know if I could deal with this myself and anyone could give me guidance on what I would need to do, please? I would also be interested to know if the same applies to telephone poles I have one in my garden with several lines running off it including my own.
Thanks
Alan

If it's a telephone pole, then it almost certainly belongs to Openreach. See https://www.openreach.co.uk/orpg/home/contactus/wayleaves/wayleaves.doIf it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Telephone poles have a one-off payment attached, which is around £250.
Hopefully, Openreach have improved since I tried to claim mine in 2013, as I found them very uncommunicative for a communications company. "We're not customer facing," I was told. Too right!
I did get my money, and the pole moved from where it had been placed illegally, but only after quoting the Telecommunications Act, advising them that they had 28 days to respond before I took direct action under its terms & provisions.
Western Power I have no bother with, but I'm only paid for the poles, stays and underground earth wires, rather than for the 11kv lines themselves. It's around £40 p.a. for 3 poles + the other attachments.0 -

They just paid me £150, but that was just for a connection on an electricity pole.
Western Power have said that they will get back to me (for the above pole) in "under a year" now that I have submitted all the maps.
