Can I not appeal PPI

Around 18 months ago I applied for a PPI claim against Nationwide stating I was unaware of having held PPI on my mortgage.

They wrote back saying tough you signed the form in two places that's the end of that claim denied.

So I thought oh well that's the end of that. Recently I heard Martin saying I should take it to the Ombudsman. I wrote back to Nationwide asking them to confirm their decision and my intention to take it to FOS but they say this is no longer possible as you only have 6 weeks from the time of final decision to appeal and if I try they will ask the FOS to refuse the appeal.

Is this correct?

Thanks for any advice!

You had six months not six weeks.

Other than that, it's correct that your "complaint" is over and you no longer have access to the ombudsman.

Shame you didnt read the rejection letter as it would have said that you have the right to go to the FOS if you feel the response was wrong.

It is 6 months. Not 6 weeks.

However, yes, they are correct. Once you are outside the 6 month period, you lose your right to refer your complaint to the FOS unless Nationwide volunteer to allow it. They say they wont so its game over.

i wouldn't be too disappointed. The FOS reject most MPPI complaints. Your complaint reason was also not a strong one and Nationwide MPPI is set up correctly (monthly premium and not single premium). So, there doesnt appear to be too much wrong.

I would suggest in future you read letters when they are sent to you. So far, you have missed the PPI (which would have had several letters sent to you when it started). And you missed the bit about referring your complaint to the FOS. You need to take more interest in your affairs otherwise things like this will happen again and again.

Just noticed OP is a bankrupt.

Unfortunately, this means that, even if the complaint were to be re-opened and was successful, user "garyclay" would get nothing personally.

PPI redress is treated as a pre-bankruptcy asset and goes straight to the Official Receiver.
