Hi guys,
I had an old HSBC account during my student days with an overdraft, i switched accounts and due to stupidity just left the overdraft.
The overdraft was eventually cancelled (£549 outstnading) and HSBC wanted all the money from me. During the time this happened my father passed away and i was in and out of the country, so not on top of mail etc.
Fast forward Jan 16, i receive a letter from westcott requesting the money. I rang Westcot saying i can pay the money but need to ensure there is no default on the account (stupidly as you will see).
I recently checked my report and can see HSBC have now added this default on the 29/2/16 but have backdated it. So there was no default but my silly actions have caused them to actually put it on now!!
However, the status shows that the account has been in default since 2012 when you look at the history. The actual date of the default shows as Jan 15.
Do i have any chance with getting this removed, stating that they have left my records inaccurate for so long, and that now they have updated my records when the account is in fact closed with them?
Let me know what you think.

So the actual default date is Jan 2015? Or is that just the first D/8.
Sceenshot of entry may help.

If you think after that the default date is way too late and inaccurate, then make a formal complaint, citing the grounds, and stating that if not corrected you will be taking the matter to both the FOS and ICO.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Thanks for the reply, see screenshot from Noddle.
I have registered a complaint with them, as below:
'I write in regards to an account I held with HSBC some years ago.
I recently checked my credit history, to note that a default has been registered on the 29/2/16. This is surprising, as I have had no HSBC account for nearly 2 years. This account also shows that the account has been in default since 2012...
I have worked very hard over the past 2 years to maintain, and improve my credit history, and was now on the verge of applying for a mortgage. No doubt, you're irresponsible behavior has now decreased my chances of getting a mortgage. Infact, i applied for credit a few days ago, and was rejected because of this specific default which indicates the account has been in default since 2012. This situation has left me financially damaged, and mentally disappointed.
Please could you look into this, and immediately remove the default. If there is an amount outstanding with yourself, I am in a position to settle on a without prejudice basis, should my default be removed.
I remind you of your responsibility under the ICO and DPA to ensure that data about an individual is accurate. I also have to ask you to consider whether you have the ability to amend ones private data when an account is closed.
I am willing to not take any further action if the default is removed with immediate effect.'
Hopefully this gets some movement, if not will have to be a bit more persistent.0 -
You'll have a hard job arguing that they were incorrect to put a default date of 2012 on your credit file, when you did default in 2012."Facism arrives as your friend. It will restore your honour, make you feel proud, protect your house, give you a job, clean up the neighbourhood, remind you of how great you once were, clear out the venal and the corrupt, remove anything you feel is unlike you... [it] doesn't walk in saying, "our programme means militias, mass imprisonments, transportations, war and persecution."0

I see. The default date and status history do indeed contradict each other on that?
It says date of default = 16/02/2015
however the status history clearly shows that the account was registered as a default from at least July 2012.
One or the other is incorrect, either with the data being reported, or the CRAs display of it on your report.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Exactly, the account was defaulted in 2015. This was actually when i was abroad due to my fathers death. If it comes to it, i will offer them flight tickets/death certificate if i go down that route.
At the moment im hoping they remove it. Some lenders look favourable upon debts that have been satisfied within 3 months of a default being registered - in this case i've never had the opportunity to do that.
What do you think is the best course of action?0 -
I was looking at pursuing this but not sure how to approach my contact to HSBC, any help?0
