How Long for CRA to update Default Status?

Hello,
New to the forum here, but have been using MSE articles for many years to help get myself debt free, so thanks for everyone's help! I've been suffering the consequences of some defaults I picked up circa 6 years ago but these are all due to come off my credit file (at last!) over the next couple of months. I have a perhaps trivial question that I've not been able to find an answer to, though.
On the 6th anniversary of a default, is it automatically removed from my credit file immediately by the respective CRA, or do I need to wait on the lender updating it to reflect this? i.e., if a default was registered on 25/04/2010, can I reasonably expect that on 25/04/2016, which is 6 years and 1 day, this will automatically be gone, or might it take a few weeks?
I'm interested to know so that, if need be, I can pursue each lender to update the report if there is any sloppiness on their part. Hopefully, its just down to the CRA to do it, and I needn't worry.

It is the CRA that removes the default/account automatically without any need for an update from the lender. The lender has no say or role in it's removal.
- Experian remove at midnight at the end of the 6 year anniversary day.
- Callcredit the same, or sometimes a while before.
- Equifax systems are slower and can take a few days to weeks to drop it.
However, if you use Noddle/Clearscore or similar rather than a live report, you won't see the default gone until your report's next monthly refresh.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Thanks very much, Fermi, for your quick reply and the information above.
Really glad that it is the CRA's that deal with this, and that I won't need to start trying to get lenders to play ball. I generally use Credit Expert to keep track of my report, so I will hopefully see the first one dropping off next week.
No one to blame but myself, but I will be very glad to see the back of them!0
