Papering over painted walls

Stripped the walls in my sons room, i had the genius idea of giving them a coat of white emulsion to make it easier to spot all the holes dents scratches and blemishes etc and then fill and sand.

The plan is to then cover the walls with a thick lining paper which i'll then paint, presume before putting the lining paper up i will need to apply a primer as papering straight onto paint isnt a good idea??

Why not simply paint the walls direct?

If you are going to the trouble of filling and sanding to that extent you shouldn't need lining paper.
You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friend's nose.
  • As long as the paint isn't flaking I would just size the walls & paper as normal.
No matter how much filling & sanding you do it's very difficult to get a perfect finish without a plaster skim.
