Front garden/driveway renovation

Now I have a more realistic idea of price I think I(we) will approach a couple in the road to see how much they paid and then get some provisional quotes. Fortunately we have a big deposit so holding back 10k and adding to the mortgage wouldn't be the end of the world. Get some monthly overpayments in to reduce the extra amount borrowed.

Will do, once I've picked myself up off the floor.0 -
Looking at the picture of the one where it has been done, what do you think they've done to get around that issue?
The back wall of the parking bay will be a structural retaining wall, designed by a structural engineer to retain the forces involved.Pardon me for being dumb, but I really am new to this sort of thing.
Nah, dumb would have been to just hire a minidigger and get stuck in without information first!0 -
Well, I'd like to think it would, after all it is not only very aesthetically pleasing
I think most people would agree the off-road parking would be an asset, but visually not everyone will like the look of the driveway.0 -

Fair point, it's very subjective. From our point of view, we prefer the classy driveway look and need the spaces. Also, I think the front garden as it is looks a bit shabby. The house has a nice, big south facing rear garden so I think it balances it out nicely. However, the cost is looking prohibitive at the moment so it will be one to be done in the future, if at all.0 -

I thought tarmac was, these, days, unacceptable for a new drive because of the need for water not to drain off the land and on to the street . It is, at least, worth checking these regulations at the same time as getting costings.0
