Cement bag opened.. time remaining?

Hi

I am doing some work in the garden and have opened a bag of cement around 8pm and will resume work tomorrow morning 8am.

I have duct taped the bag shut. Is it OK to use?

If you are talking about cement powder, and you have made sure water cant get into it, then it will be fine tomorrow.

yes, cement power. unmixed. there's low humidity (no rain) and in my shed so that's good to know

I have a bag that's been open a year and it's still fine.

You'll know when it's no good because it will have turned into a solid lump!

it's not binary, it's not like all the cement granuales have either bonded or not bonded, there is a big greay area inbetween where the a percentage of the cement has recated to atmospheric humidity reacted and will be as good as sand granuales in a mortar mix because they will not rebond again.

To re bond it must have first bonded to something. If there's just cement in the bag it will bond to itself and therefore would be in a solid lump.

i wrote a reply and realised i just rewrote my original post. For the cement to be spoilt it does't need to becoming a solid lump, it can deprecae enough where the cement granuales have bonded in lumps within the bag of cement. But have not formed a single solid lump. if you used that cement in a mix, This would make the structure of any cement or mortar weak and dangerous in applications such as building

You'd notice it binding to itself in lumps and I doubt you're building anything that would be dangerous with your left over half bag of cement.

let's not get lost in tangets, a bag of cement costs £4. it's stupid to leave a 1 year old opened bag of cement on a build a risk the thing crumbling in pieces shortly after.

I doubt you'll be building much with £2 worth of cement, but I'm glad you acknowledge you're stupid.
