Timber terrace cleaning

Hello Everyone!
I have a timber terrace/balcony, at the top floor of the building. I am looking to clean it next month, and restore its color this year. There are 2 terraces/balconies exactly below mine.
What does the law say about cleaning the terrace, as water/chemical used will definitely fall on the terraces below. How much of notice do I have to give to my downstairs neighbor? Do I have to pay for cleaning the mess on his terrace as well?
How do you guys address this problem??
Thanks in advance for the help and guidance.

I would certainly tell them, and be ready with the mop and bucket to clean up theirs after I done mine.
The fly in the ointment is the chemical cleaners - if they mark / stain / make unsightly the balconies below then that is a real problem. Will a jet wash alone do the job ? You'd only be mopping up dirty water lower down then, and probably not that much of it - jet washers tend to be pretty frugal with the amount of water they use.
Alternatively, can you have a word with the neighbor directly below and arrange to set up some plastic sheeting to catch the water ? Duck tape will probably be involved !
How well do you get on with the neighbors below ? - if it's really neighborly you might be able to get organised on labour / materials to make a communal job of the three ... (start at the top one though...)0 -
Very good suggestion, JP08.
I do not know them, yet, but its a good idea to make it communal job. If they do not want it, a bucket and a mop, is ready with me. Will give them fair notice of about a month, and will be flexible with date if they have any objection.
Thank you, once again.0
