Reclaiming PPI after debt management

Hi,
Not sure if there is any hope here.
my son got into serious debt during a previous relationship. As the debt increased he took out more loans. His partner could not help as she already had a large debt from earlier.
When the recovery letters started arriving, including a CCJ, he panicked and contacted a debt management agency who dealt with the creditors and arranged a repayment programme for him. All are now sorted once we found out when his relationship broke down and he moved back home.
He contacted the debt management company re PPI and they offered him 50p, which he declined. Is there a possibility that he might be eligible for PPI repayments?
Unfortunately the only info we have at the moment from the management company does not show individual creditors as most of them were passed to recovery agents and the account numbers shown are theirs.
Can we trace the original agreements and the companies concerned and how do we enter claims and who with?
Any help and advice would be very welcome.
