Refelt shed roof

Have been quoted £185 to refelt my pent shed 8 ft by 6 ft and repair two rotten shiplap panels and a batten where the felt overlaps. Is this a fair price? Thanks

  • Felt will be about £30. So it is about £150 labour. Depends where you live. My guess is half a day or a bit more depending on that wood being repaired.

Im in a higher cost area and as long as they took away waste and did a good job i would consider it a decent price. But something like that i would probably have a go at DIY, not hard to refelt a roof if you can climb a ladder.

Hammer, crowbar, ladder, gloves maybe, buy the felt, nails/tacks (whatever one's supposed to use to attach felt), some wood. Even if you've to buy all new if you don't already have them, it'll save you money. Not a hard job and if you're willing to have a go at DIY. If you do go down the hiring route I'd try to knock a bit off, £185 seems expensive for such work as like another has said, half a day or so. Aim at £75-80 for labour. Materials shouldn't cost a lot.

It is unreasonable to pay any tradesman £75/80 for a job. What will he/she do for the rest of the day?Labour can't be just switched on/off.
The original quote seems fair IMO if the OP doesn't want to do it.
It is however a job I would do myself.

I was quoted £95 for a similar job, excluding materials (I already had a roll of felt). I didn't take this up in the end as I've decided to replace the shed with a bigger one!

Felt someone else's roof! Or any other job on their books.

Why do you think OP should finance the tradesman if they don't have work?

It really doesn't work like that. You go out and try to make a living with your mindset.
The work has been assessed and an all in fair price has been given...end of.

Last time my shed needed doing I went for the Bitumen sheeting from Wicks although more expensive for materials but looks better.

Took a while as the roof needed repairs due to previous leaking felt.

    Holding up very well.
