Car insurance doubled after change of address!!

I am moving house at the end of this month so went onto my online car insurance and changed my address. 2 days later I get an email saying they want to increase my policy by £330! For the time I live at the address till the end of my policy would have been £350, so for 6 months my policy has been doubled to £680, or I can pay a cancellation fee of £240.
I think this is rediculous, and not sure what to do. I feel like they have put me in a corner where I just have to give them lots of money which I can't afford. I asked what happens if I can't afford either and they said they would have to pass it on to their collections team (aka bailiffs)
Not sure where to take this?? Or what to do?

Sounds like you've moved from an inexpensive area to an expensive area, insurance wise.
Have you tried putting your new address into comparison engines to see whether the rate they are now quoting (pro-rata'd up to per annum) is competitive for the area to which you are moving?:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

This happened to me a couple of years ago.. My insurance went up from £25 per month to £83! The only change was address within the same city. I admittedly was fully aware that the areas were vastly different but I didn't expect such a huge rise.
Unfortunately, on renewal and getting new quotes the £82 was in the lowest of the quotes. It did not improve until I moved again to a much better area.0
