    There is no harm in 'getting an idea' of what these things will cost - perhaps to help you with budgeting.

    But bear in mind that some builders, plumbers, electricians etc would see it as a potential waste of their time coming to look at the property. There is no guarantee that you will buy the property, and even if you do it will take a few months.

    The tradesmen might even suspect you are trying to get a 'free survey'. e.g. Instead of paying for an electrical survey, you get an electrician to look at the electrics - whilst pretending that you want a genuine quote for work.

    my solicitor has told me that although the lady we bought it from own its outright( her husband bought her it)The title deeds are still in the mum and dads name,the parents are now deceased.They have a will stating that the lady owns it.Im going to call tomorrow for an update and timescale.My mortgage offer expires 15th September,the first i heard there was a problem was the 22nd March.I really want this house but will see what she says tomorrow.Im a first time buyer so new to all this.

    I wonder if this all happened pre 1990 & the property wasn't registered with Land Registery (& still isn't), hence at some point it's been 'bought' by a daughter from her parents who continued to live in it until their death, stating in their Will that daughter had purchased the house. With nothing done properly as it should have been.

    Everything should be put in writing from your solicitor Janette including timescales, so you can get a clear picture.
    Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.
